Jalan-jalan cari makan!

Yesterday, my company had our company lunch at Siam Kitchen, Mid Valley.

Company lunch is a monthly treat and every department takes turn to serve. It can be food brought from home, or maybe ordered from some catering services, or simply going to some restaurant. This month is our Finance Department turn and they decided to bring us to Thai foods restaurant. Yum! Yum!

I realized that two weeks ago was a real big makan week for me. On Monday, I had a gathering for ex and current staffs gathering (this one didn't involve top management) at Little Penang, Mid Valley. On Tuesday, with top management, I had lunch at Amarin Thai, Mid Valley with two of SIRIM guys. On Wednesday, I took my dinner at Pha Pha seafood with my colleagues, celebrating the last day my colleague working in the company. And on weekend, I went to Danga Bay to eat with my girl friend. (Really sorry to my digestion system for facing such a weird mixture of foods! :P )

I don't know why. But we love to find a nice kedai makan with variety of delicious food. Kak Dewi, Ain's friend, told us that once she transferred to KL, she was really hunting down such places. I guess, same goes with us. There is a case where friend of friend who, at least to me, an extreme foods lover that they went to Melaka from KL at night and came back at the same night just for the sake of their stomach - to eat seafood at Umbai.

From my observation, many online forums, especially the one related to some kind of transportation, will surely have jalan-jalan cari makan or teh tarik sessions. We can see a lot of magazine, like KLUE, potraying places serve special meals where we can head to. And a lot of programmes in TV being aired that make us hungry and our mouth watering.

Yeah! Having nice foods is self-satisfaction! After daily hectics work and study, we think we deserve that, and won't mind spending some money for our appetite. I know, some people think it is an extravaganza, but i guess, the purpose of that is self-appreciation.

We love to eat nice foods, and nice foods we have. Yeah, thanks God, alhamdulillah atas nikmat yg dikurniakan. But at the same time, don't forget that there are people who unfortunately live without food for days!! So, take the advice: "berhenti sebelum kenyang!" :)

The day i lost my wallet!!

A short update:
I lost my wallet yesterday somewhere at Mid Valley!!

I made a report at Traverse Police Station, Brickfields that very evening, and blocked all the credit card and my bank cards. I broke the news to several of my close friends, and they gave me some warm words to make me calm.

And, i kept telling myself everything would be alright - just calm down, take necessary steps and pray.

And you know what? To my surprise, this morning, a women called me (she got my HP number from my business card in the wallet), and told me that she found my wallet. I picked it up at her office, and after checking, everything was there. No single cent was missing.

I gave my huge thanks, and said sorry for unable to give her something in return. I was speechless.

Thanks God. There is still people who really honest, the treat that much needed in our current society. :)

Everyone told me that i was really lucky. And i felt the same way!

ISO 9001:2000

My company just finished its surveillance audit conducted by SIRIM guys last Tuesday for ISO 9001:2000. We escaped with no non-comformity (NCR), surely an improvement considering the fact that in the last year compliance audit, we had 2 NCRs. I'm as the lead auditor in my company for IQA (stands for Internal Quality Audit, not that Dzaliqa Ghazali ok! :P) felt a bit relief when SIRIM auditor could not find any NCR. Yeah, it at least reflects my audit process (although there is "observation" on Internal Quality Audit itself :P). Hehe!

ISO 9001:2000 is a standard mainly for Quality Management System. It actually contains set of clauses on how a good management should be, which based on 8 principles. Among them are Continual Improvement and Leadership. The list should be like this:

Principle 1 : Customer focus
Principle 2 : Leadership
Principle 3 : Involvement of people
Principle 4 : Process approach
Principle 5 : System approach to management
Principle 6 : Continual improvement
Principle 7 : Factual approach to decision making
Principle 8 : Mutually beneficial supplier relationships

I don't think i should elaborate more on these principles. :P Corpulent books were written and you can find them easily. Or, i guess, you can even find them in the Internet without much effort.

I don't know how i can involve in ISO that far. Sorry. At least, i know how it began. Assigned as system administrator in my company, i didn't have any knowledge about ISO at first. Ain told me that she learnt the standard in UTM, but she majored in Industrial Computer, which in term of the practicality, more feasible. Since our company is quite small, and there is no department specifically for ISO purposes, a committee was formed, and i has been assigned as a lead auditor. Why in the world my director chose me, i didn't know. Anyway, i was sent for 1 weeks training conducted by Neville-Clark in Jan 2003, being taught and lectured anything they thought i should have as a good auditor. It was IATCA/IRCA Registered Auditor/Lead Auditor Training. I had later to take two hours exam, answering a set of questions brought here from UK, and i passed. *Phew*, or my head would roll off my neck. Kidding!

Before attending the course, i was sceptical about ISO, blaming it for extra works given to me without me realizing the beauty of the standard. The course is of course an eye-opener - ISO is not difficult. What makes things difficult is the one who create the Standard Operating Procdure for the company, or the one who implement the standard blindly wihout thoroughly studying the business processes. So, when staffs start lamenting, mentioning about their difficulty in the implementation process, then there is something wrong in the way they "translate" their routines into writing.

Hmmmm, after all, ISO is a tested and proven method for Management System. So, what else to say?

Yeah, that's my work life, doing "cum-cum" work, and being expected to learn something fast. I love being in systems world, and learn about it by heart. However, this side responsibility help me to understand more about management; understand more about not just being an ordinary executive; understand more about life.

And, make me more mysterious! :P

Tagboard! How nice!

Don't you love tag boards? I love it! Read the message posted by someone in your site, and then you will be able to add yours or reply. Nice right?

Long time ago, if someone intend to leave a message - no matter whether it is a compliment, question, suggestion or anything, then they have to sign guestbook. Yeah, if any :P. But now, we have tagboard. And this tagboard , i believe, is more convenient then the old way. And make it more interesting, they can even like, you know, "chat" with one another. :P

And i love when they are playing around in teratorian's blog circle. It makes us more intimate, and we can feel the presence of others - something we appreciate among us.

For my blog (iqa's blog too!), i'm using Shoutbox. ( Heyy, i'm using it for free so i think it is nice to give them some publicity here, hehe! So, please visit http://www.myshoutbox.com ). In their website, one user posted a comment : "A Shoutbox has the best of guestbook, b-board and chat! It's very simply and effective way to make your website "alive" and communicate with all other visitors!"

How true! It is very true indeed!

However, i hate when people start using other people nick, since, you know, in tagboard, there is no authentication mechanism whatsoever. People can write whatever they like.

So, my friend, on this, we need a lot of integrity. And i believe in all of you. :)

Chess: CAS 2nd Quater Allegro!

Yesterday, I entered a chess tournament, namely CAS 2nd Quater Allegro, at The Chess Network, Wilayah Complex. It was one day tournament, with 7 rounds, 25 minutes per player per game. I just got an average result, 4/7 or +3-2=2. It's fun. I played big names like the 1st seeded, Fairin Zakaria and Hafiz Sharifuddin.

Since i was a kid, i love to play chess competitively. :) I learnt chess at the age of 9, but only study it seriously when i was 12 years old. At that time, my world didn't open up to massive study materials, like today. So, my skill improved at a very slow pace. I just found a sparring partner where their level of playing almost at par with me, and began my crazy experimentation. I always assume that i'm actually a street player. :P And street player i'm, playing that game without board in blindfold matches. :P

I didn't succeed in my way to MSSM, only to find that there were other players in MSSJ who were stronger than me. And while i were studying in UTM, although i love studying the games, i seldom entering tournament. From then onward, i average playing 2 or 3 tournaments per year.

However, till now, i still keep studying and playing the games. I've stacks of chess book on my study table which i open, go through and digest now and then. Why?

Let's Kasparov do the talking for me:

Quote.

To play creatively without being afraid of taking chances and to posses a polished chess style in no way releases you from the need for persistent hard work. On the contrary, you must constantly perfect your playing, deepen and widen your opening repertoire, refine your techniques, and analyse complicated endgames. Chess, after all, is not just an accumulation of acquired knowledge; chess is dynamic, and apparently definitive conclusion may in actual fact be just an interim one. The truth has to be proved every time. Even my own annotations to games are not unshakeable as far as i am concerned. I like to keep updating them, making them more precise: many ideas come to be reaccessed, including, of course, one's own ideas. I willingly go over my own mistakes again and analyse them.

Unquote.

It is very practical, rite? Don't look from chess perspective only, but from life itself.

Enuff said! I just love this game!! :P

Birthday!!

Today is my birthday. To those who want to know my age, i was actually born in 1978, so start doing your own calculation. :P I told Dihah that i'm 18 - i mean in Mars. If that is so, then she might be 8, she said. She asked why i just don't stay in the Mars then, and my reply came spontaneously: "I love Earth's Girl". :P Yeah, i actually have one now that i really love. So, the idea of coming back to Mars seems now going down to the drain. :P

Anyway, i never really care about my age :) When i was in form 1, people told me i was like form 6 student. And when i was 20, like in late 20s. So, you should try to be in my shoes and you will understand how i feel. :P

Anyway, what happened today? You might ask. Lemme tell you.

Several minutes before the clock struck 12 a.m., Ain called me and wishing me Happy Birthday, and she sang the happy birthday song, with her sweet voice. And we talked for a while after that. (Don't ask me what we talk about, ok? :P)

Ok. Ok. It's common for a girlfriend to call at the very first minutes of the day to wish. Now, you know what? Surprise. Surprise. Her mom called me personally when i was having my breakfast, wishing me Happy Birthday. I was like "errkk" and shocked, but still maintaining my composure, i said my thanks to her for being thoughtful. Ain informed me later that Birthday is considered a big occasion in her family.

At terato forum, Hanani a.k.a andes` created a thread for that purpose, with a big Calvin and Hobbes picture. No Sussie inside the picture, thanks God for this serene day and for the no distruption :P So, people started dropping down a word or two, wishing me Happy Birthday. Thanks guys!

Not only that, several of them sent message through email, YM and SMS. Thanks again! And, i even have them sent through fax! *grinning* Thanks!

I dunno that i've so many friends!! :P

Later at night, i have a dinner with my colleague at Pha Pha Seafood, and since i was quite starving, we had Ikan Bawal tiga rasa, Tomyam, Kailan ikan masin, telur dadar and nasi putih of course. Yum, yum. **And me makan cikit utk Ain** :)

That's the day!

To myself, semoga panjang umur, murah rezeki dan bertambah keimanan yg ada dlm diri. Semoga nikmat umur dan hari-hari yg akan datang akan dapat di manfaatkan dgn penuh tanggungjawab. :)
